Yes you will need some Decal softener. Here is a small tutorial I wrote on applying waterslides (in particular Bandai ones).

Just change the clear colors you want to do it in.

The problem with polycaps is that paint doesn't like to bond to well with the plastic. I find that if you paint them, when you move the joints they are in pieces of the paint will come away. I tend not to worry about the socket joints too much because a lot of the time there aren't visible anyway. W...

I generally use a black base coat, silver/chrome first layer and a clear green top layer. For mono-eyes, I like to replace the green with red.

I clean my Tamiya Acrylic bottles with hot water and an old toothbrush. It sometimes helps if the acrylic paint is a little bit dried too - it flakes off easier then.
