Marvel Comic's "Thor"
I saw it Saturday night in an advance screening for the military. We loved it. I've never read the comic, but if it's anything resembling the movie, I want to. It's kind of hard for me to review this since I don't know the comic, but it is fast-paced, full of action and a few laughs, and fun. The ac...

Go into a darkened bathroom with a candle in your hand. Look into the mirror and repeat "Toysdream" seven times.

Re: The Official Gundam Unicorn Anime Thread Mk II
I've seen both episodes and can't say one was better than the other. Episode 1 made me raise my expectations for the whole thing and 2 didn't let me down. I'm also really, really liking how Mineba grew up: her youngest uncle's looks and her oldest uncle's smarts with who knows which relative's commo...

Re: Finished Watching 08th MS Team
I also didn't find it all that "realistic" militarily, speaking as a veteran, but face it, if you're looking for military realism in SF you're nuts. "Realistic" gets thrown around a lot in discussion of mecha anime, and I think it should be clarified as to what it means. I think...

Re: Finished Watching 08th MS Team
I never "felt" 08th Team. I own the last disc of it just so I can watch "Shuddering Mountain Part 1". I never cared much about the characters, but as someone above mentioned, that might have been because of the brevity of the show. I also didn't find it all that "realistic&q...

I have an Anime Toilet for you guys. The worst anime I ever saw, which I rented just because I wanted to see how bad bad could get, is something available off Netflix called "Urda: Third Reich". I'll never get that time back, but at least it was only an hour.

Shi Ki
Is anybody else watching this show? I'm following it on Hulu. It's a horror series that I gather is still showing in Japan because they're adding an episode each week. I've subscribed. Something is killing the citizens of Subota Village and a monk, a junior doctor and the new kid in town want to kno...

Re: The Legend of the Galactic Heroes Thread
This is one of my favourite anime ever. I have seen every episode, including the gaiden. Around season 3 it starts feeling kind of onerous, but picks up again for the conclusion. I really, really, really don't like Reinhardt because after all his highfalutin' talk about ending the empire he ends up ...

I didn't expect Mexico to win over Argentina, but I didn't expect how embarrasingly BADLY the Caracols would play! They were awful! So I'll be rooting for Argentina when they play Germany.

Re: The Official Gundam Unicorn Anime Thread Mk II
I watched episode 1 of "Unicorn" this morning and really liked it. I may end up buying the Blu-Ray (saw it on PSN) because there's a lot going on in the backgrounds and the battle scenes are worth a second look. This is definitely not a show to start watching Gundam with; I don't think I'v...

I'm currently reading "The Brothers Karamazov" by Fyodor Dostoevsky as a break from all the Warhammer 40K I was reading in Afghanistan. Not exactly escapist, I know.

Re: Going to Iraq EDIT FOR 2009! Going to KUWAIT!!!!!!
Yup, I'm in Afghanistan, and from what all my other Army peeps have said, Afghanistan makes Iraq look like Disneyland. This is a horrible place. I live in a tent and have no access to internet except at the MWR. My family even uses my work address because access to my other ones is rare. Going to th...

I'm willing to bet your deployment won't be to Kuwait, if it happens at all.

I have Richie Kotzen's "Soldiers of Sorrow" and am going to have to get this.
Personally, if faced with "Here Comes Char", I probably would reword it to "Char Approaches" or, if I didn't think people would freak about it, "The Red Comet Approaches".

Re: Latest movie thread.
I just saw District 9 last night and really, really liked it. It was interesting having a movie where the aliens did not go to the usual cities of New York, L.A., London or Tokyo. For the same reason it was interesting to have the organized crime baddies be Nigerian rather than Sicilian. There's a b...

Re: University of Florida's Zombie Survival Plan
And now it seems the University of Florida took it off of their website, D:. No joke: UF officials remove zombie plan from site That's pretty stupid, when you think about it. It ensured that people would at least look at the disaster plan web page, somethin I know I wouldn't do unless there was an ...
